Wireless washable healthcare keyboard announced
Rugged peripheral maker iKeyrevealed the industry’s first rechargeable keyboard designed for infection control. The SBW-97-TP features silicone rubber keys and a polycarbonate plastic back compatible with hospital-grade disinfectants. A lithium-ion battery is estimated at two weeks of use, and recharges to full capacity in five hours. An optional magnetic mount is available. Pricing for the keyboard is available on request.
EU version of Glooko adds graphical trend analysis to blood sugar monitoring
Mobile healthcare startup Glooko, backed by Andy Hertzfeld and Vint Cerf, officially launched the Glooko Logbook app (free), which generates history reports in the US plus Canada and Excel-compatible charts in the European Union. Both implementations allow users to connect an iOS device using the purchased-separately MeterSync cable ($40) to one of the 11 compatible blood glucose meters.
The EU version provides a visual representation of the changes in blood sugar over time in Microsoft Excel, while the US version is bound by Food and Drug Administration regulations, and omits the trend analysis and graphs. Submission of the charts to the FDA for approval is planned. The MeterSync cable retails for $40, and the infrared adapter for the Accu-Chek line is an additional $15.
Sonnet Qio CF4 quad-CompactFlash reader ships
Sonnet’s new addition to the Qio line, the CF4, has been announced. The CF4 features a either a PCIe or an ExpressCard/34 adapter connecting to four CompactFlash slots, capable of reading a combined 400MB per second. The rear of the CF4′s case provides a pair of e-SATA ports for convenient external mass-storage. The card reader is available now for $599 with either the PCIe or ExpressCard/34 bus extender card.
