Must-see: Music video shot with three iPhones

Who said the iPhone’s camera was lame? It’s certainly good enough for director Tom De Nolf who shot a pro-looking music video on three iPhones. Don’t believe me? Then check out the music video, embedded below for your viewing pleasure.
This one arrived via Cult of Mac’s Eli Milchman who reported that director Tom De Nolf, whose portfolio includes Honda, AT&T, and Michael Phelps, decided to do this after being taken aback by the video quality of his newly purchased iPhone 3GS. He was apparently so impressed that he decided to shoot a full-length music video for Kirk Thurmond’s “Born in the City” – using just three iPhones.
He then transferred raw footage on to his MacBook Pro and edited the video in FinalCut Pro, but this doesn’t change the fact that De Nolf recorded an impressive-looking music video using a mobile phone that shoots VGA-quality clips (640×480 pixels) at 25 frames per second.
De Nolf hailed the iPhone’s ability to capture long videos rather than 30- or 60-second segments. Geeks could note that this stems from the iPhone’s 256MB RAM and efficient H.264 codec that can compress long video segments before the device runs out of memory. The iPhone’s exposure controls also helped the director achieve eye-catching video effects during filming rather than do them in the editing phase:
We would get a halo-effect on his head … and that’s pretty amazing that you could do that with in-camera latitude
Of course, you do realize it takes a fair amount of talent and creativity to turn raw phone clips into a professional production like this music video. If that weren’t the case, we’d all be shooting the next Blair With Project during our subway commute.
