Ruling on DMCA could allow breaking DRM for fair use

A new court ruling on Friday could set a legal precedent that allows bypassing digital rights management (DRM) for fair use purposes. New Orleans circuit Judge Emilio Garza found that GE hadn’t violated the Digital Millennium Copyright Act by using hacked security dongles to repair uninterruptible power supplies from MGE UPS Systems as the goal itself was legal. AT&T to allow unlimited data for current iPad 3G orders

AT&T will allow people with currently unfulfilled iPad 3G orders to get unlimited data plans, the carrier has stated through its Facebook page. Skype is a popular VOIP (voice over IP) application that allows users to make phone calls from their computer or mobile phone over a network connection. Apple may soon allow for in-app paid upgrades

Apple may soon allow for in-app paid upgrades, as indicated by an iTunes dialog posted on Twitter by developer Fraser Speirs. The alert notifies customers that a certain discounted price is only available for users who own a previous version of the item. The dialog allegedly surfaced when Speirs attempted to update all of his apps. Developers are currently limited to offering new content as in-app purchases, rather than upgrades.
