Google has re-written the mobile YouTube site entirely in HTML5, allowing smartphone owners to browse and search the videos, access the features of their account and yes – stream video without the Adobe Flash plugin. There’s no doubt that the owners of iPhone or iPod touch will like the new site that launched Wednesday morning at m.youtube.com, but it’ll also appeal to the folks on other mobile platforms like Android.
The user interface has been completely overhauled and optimized for touch-based input. You can now access the f...... Read more

SproutCore, the open source “Rich Internet Apps” framework Apple adopted and invested in to construct its online MobileMe suite of web apps and its iWork.com service, is taking on a larger life of its own as independent companies use it to deliver sophisticated multitouch web apps targeted at iPad and other HTML5-savvy tablets.
Among those using SproutCore to target the new market for such multitouch RIAs is Strobe, Inc., founded by Charles Jolley, the founder of SproutCore and until just recently a core developer of A...... Read more
Apple and Steve Jobs have made it very clear that Flash will never be an option on devices like the iPhone and iPad. But making that decision is like showing a red rag to a bull–tell people they can’t have something and they’ll surely want it more.
The inevitable has therefore happened, and Flash has been ported to the iPad. You need to jailbreak your iPad of course, but once done, this port works with Safari using a compatibility layer.

In the ongoing debate over whether to use Flash or HTML5, Google has weighed in heavily in favor of using HTML5. The engineers at the Google-owned YouTube, however, still prefer Flash, if a company blog item posted Tuesday from the company is any indication.

At a minimum, embedding needs the option as videos otherwise can’t port over their ads, annotations or notes.
Many of the secondary features considered important to YouTube also need Flash to work...... Read more

Apple is finding an unlikely ally in its efforts to support HTML5 in preference to Adobe Flash as the platform for dynamic web content: pornographers.
According to a report by ConceivablyTech, leading adult film studio Digital Playground has announced its intentions to make the leap to HTML5, based in part upon needing to target HTML5 to reach Apple’s iPhone users.
Digital Playground began offering its content to iPhone users two years ago. Because Apple has a policy of not carrying pornography in its own curated App Store,...... Read more
Adobe issued a warning last week to Mac users who installed the Mac OS X 10.6.4 update, saying that Apple shipped an outdated Flash Player with the operating system update. Adobe’s software engineer Wendy Poland wrote in a blog post this past Tuesday that Apple released both the Security Update 2010-004 and Mac OS X 10.6.4 with an outdated Flash Player:
This update includes an earlier version of Adobe Flash Player (version 10.0.45.2) than available from Adobe.com.
Neither update will downgrade users who have already upgraded to F...... Read more
