Speaking to Wall Street analysts, Microsoft chief executive Steve Ballmer noted that tablets are a big issue for the company and expressed concern about Apple’s success with iPad.
“Today, one of the top issues on my mind, hey there’s a category — tablets,” Ballmer said, according to a transcript by Business Insider.

The Khronos Group announced in a press release that the OpenGL graphics API has reached specification version 4.1. OpenGL is one of two major graphics APIs—the toolsets programmers use to build games and other apps that use 3D graphics—supported by hardware the hardware manufacturers that produce the graphic chipsets for everything from desktop computer to smartphones. Beginning this Friday, customers can purchase iPhone 4 in Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, New Zealand, Singapore, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland. The anti-trust settlement between Intel and the FTC may not be completed in time, says a Wednesday report [reg. required]. The deal was expected to be completed this week, with midnight on Thursday the deadline. WSJ sources claim the two sides are not ready to reveal the terms of the settlement, and are expected to file a request to an administrative judge to extend the talks.

Apple is pushing the iPad and iPhone 4 into more territories in the coming weeks, today the company announced that the iPad will be available in an additional nine countries this coming Friday.
During last weeks iPhone 4 press conference Apple took the opportunity to inform that the iPhone will be available in 17 new countries on July 30.
This Friday, July 23 iPad will be available in Austria, Belgium, Hong Kong, Ireland, Luxembourg, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand and Singapore.

Apple on Friday shared a summary of dropped call data it received from wireless partner AT&T, which revealed that the iPhone 4 experiences more dropped calls than the iPhone 3GS, but at a rate less than one per 100 greater.
“It’s very hard, when we look at this data, not to conclude that there is a problem,” Apple Chief Executive Steve Jobs said Friday. “But it’s a problem affecting a small percentage of users.”

On the heels of the iOS 4.0.1 update for the iPhone, Apple has released iOS 3.2.1 for all iPad models, addressing several issues.
The most prominent of the changes is a much-anticipated fix to Wi-Fi connectivity issues that were widely reported when Apple’s tablet was came out last April. Unfortunately, the notes that accompany the release do not explain which of the reported problems have been corrected or how.
