Best known for its $1 DVD rentals, Redbox today confirmed rumors of an Internet movie service. The company’s president Mitch Lowe promised to Bloomberg that details would come in October and promised that it would be an extension of the service, achieving things that the company “can’t do in [its] kiosks.”

Apple today announced the launch of movie downloads for its iTunes Stores in France and Ireland. The offerings include both purchases and rentals and come from major studios such as 20th Century Fox, MGM, Paramount, Sony, Universal, Disney, and Warner Brothers, as well as smaller European-focused studios.
iTunes movies start at €7.99 for catalog title purchases, €9.99 for recent releases and €13.99 for new releases. iTunes Movie Rentals are €2.99 for library title rentals and €3.99 for new releases, and high definition versions are priced at just one euro more.

New reports of conversations between Apple and film studios have verified the existence of an “iTunes Replay” cloud service detailed by AppleInsider a year ago.
A new CNET report published today says Apple is working to get studios to agree to allow it to host an online “cloud” version of the content they buy, enabling them to access it from their mobile devices, such as the iPhone, iPod touch and the upcoming iPad.

Movie rental house Netflix is still testing the waters on potentially streaming movies instantly to the iPhone or iPod touch, according to reports from users.
The information comes from a survey aimed at Netflix users who own an Apple mobile device. According to the survey, the service would be available over Wi-Fi only:
