Redbox to detail online movie service in October

Best known for its $1 DVD rentals, Redbox today confirmed rumors of an Internet movie service. The company’s president Mitch Lowe promised to Bloomberg that details would come in October and promised that it would be an extension of the service, achieving things that the company “can’t do in [its] kiosks.” The service would be a reaction to threats from Netflix, whose streaming is now virtually ubiquitous and is considered one of its greatest advantages after the mail-order rentals themselves. In his “Thoughts on Flash” letter last week, Apple CEO Steve Jobs noted his company’s frustration with Adobe’s slow pace at getting Flash working well on mobile devices, citing missed timelines and a sense of relief that Apple didn’t wait for Adobe to deliver the technology. We have routinely asked Adobe to show us Flash performing well on a mobile device, any mobile device, for a few years now. We have never seen it. Apple Launches iTunes Movie Store downloads in France and Ireland

Apple today announced the launch of movie downloads for its iTunes Stores in France and Ireland. The offerings include both purchases and rentals and come from major studios such as 20th Century Fox, MGM, Paramount, Sony, Universal, Disney, and Warner Brothers, as well as smaller European-focused studios. iTunes movies start at €7.99 for catalog title purchases, €9.99 for recent releases and €13.99 for new releases. iTunes Movie Rentals are €2.99 for library title rentals and €3.99 for new releases, and high definition versions are priced at just one euro more.
