CNBC reports that News Corp, the Rupert Murdoch-led media conglomerate behind such outlets as The Wall Street Journal, Barron’s, and The New York Post, is considering launching a new news unit dedicated to content for tablet devices such as the iPad. Sources close to the company tell me that the company is considering creating a new purely digital news play that would be designed for the app world and would be available through subscription on devices like the iPad. This new digital news venture would incorporate text, photo and video, tailored for the iTunes app format …. neither...... Read more

By Katie Marsal Published: 11:00 AM EST The popularity of Apple’s iPad has prompted media giant News Corp. to consider starting a news organization that would provide content specifically for a new subscription service for tablet devices. The Financial Times reported Friday that the company has not yet made a decision on the matter, but is expected to make a move this autumn. ABC News takes on news reading with an interactive globe iPad app

By Gary, July 23, 2010 12:58 pm

ABC News, the news gathering division of the US broadcast television network ABC, finally has its own news reader app for the iPad. Why “finally”? Because ABC is a subsidiary of the Walt Disney Company where Steve Jobs claims a board seat as the largest individual shareholder. Available now as a free download from iTunes, ABC News reader promises “interactive information” on your iPad (like we haven’t seen interactive news nailed on iPad). Its biggest perk is an interactive globe, an eye-candy way to discover news stories...... Read more

iPhone 4 Release Day News Round-Up

By Gary, June 24, 2010 11:59 pm

Apple today released iPhone 4 in the US, France, Germany, Japan and the UK. The launch was met with long queues across most retail stores, along with free coffee and breakfast at many. We were positioned outside Bath’s Apple Store (SouthGate) from 7am, when the store opened for people with reservations. We were warned immediately that Vodafone had not provided the store with any microSIMs, and therefore only Orange, o2 and three activations were possible. Armed with free coffee and breakfast provided by Apple and Starbucks, the whole process only took about 20 minutes after the doors...... Read more

By Gary, June 9, 2010 3:38 am

Message from Five Filters: If you can, please donate to the full-text RSS service so we can continue developing it. All Things Digital reports that just hours after being mentioned as a prominent example of the promise of App Store applications for the iPad early in Apple CEO Steve Jobs’ keynote address at the company’s Worldwide Developers Conference, Pulse News Reader disappeared from the App Store. According to the report, the removal was the result of a copyright complaint filed by The New York Times over the application’s use of RSS feeds, which are used in a “...... Read more
