CNBC reports that News Corp, the Rupert Murdoch-led media conglomerate behind such outlets as The Wall Street Journal, Barron’s, and The New York Post, is considering launching a new news unit dedicated to content for tablet devices such as the iPad.
Sources close to the company tell me that the company is considering creating a new purely digital news play that would be designed for the app world and would be available through subscription on devices like the iPad.

The popularity of Apple’s iPad has prompted media giant News Corp. to consider starting a news organization that would provide content specifically for a new subscription service for tablet devices.
The Financial Times reported Friday that the company has not yet made a decision on the matter, but is expected to make a move this autumn. Officials with the company see such a venture as an opportunity to help News Corp. transition into the digital era for news.

ABC News, the news gathering division of the US broadcast television network ABC, finally has its own news reader app for the iPad. Why “finally”? Because ABC is a subsidiary of the Walt Disney Company where Steve Jobs claims a board seat as the largest individual shareholder.

Nearly two weeks after rolling out a Google News redesign, Google has added a new feature to the page in hopes of placating complainers. The feature lets people opt to view news stories in two columns, unlike the initial redesign that listed all stories in a single long column.
To call the response following the June 30 release of the redesigned News site angry would be an understatement.

Apple today released iPhone 4 in the US, France, Germany, Japan and the UK.
The launch was met with long queues across most retail stores, along with free coffee and breakfast at many.
We were positioned outside Bath’s Apple Store (SouthGate) from 7am, when the store opened for people with reservations.
