Phone Scoop yesterday discovered new regulatory filings posted by the U.S. Federal Communications Commission showing a new Sprint-branded 3G mobile hotspot device manufactured by ZTE that appears to be in the form of a designed case to wrap around Apple’s iPod touch.
The Peel, as FCC photos suggest it will be called, seems to be a carriage sled for a tablet style device like the iPod touch. The Peel does not seem to connect to its host device, and it seems to be a specially designed Wi-Fi hotspot device that could offer EV-DO networking to an iPod touch in a package that could be clampe...... ZTE Peel to give iPod its own 3G data
An FCC filing discovered late Wednesday has signaled a unique Sprint plan to capture Apple device users. A ZTE device known as the Peel would serve as an iPod touch case but would hold a full 3G-to-Wi-Fi mobile hotspot in its back. The combo would give the iPod, and other nearby devices, an always-on 3G connection without needing a separate MiFi.
The Peel’s capabilities aren’t fully outlined, but it would have its own battery; there’s no Dock Connector or similar attachment to whatever devi...... Read more

Apple will release a new iPod touch with a 3-megapixel camera capable of recording both photos and video, as well as a redesigned, thinner MacBook Air with an 11.6-inch display this year, a new rumor states.
The new iPod touch is expected to arrive in August or September, when Apple usually refreshes its iPod lineup, while the MacBook Air would arrive in the second half of 2010, according to a new report from Taiwanese industry publication DigiTimes. Mingchi Kuo, senior analyst, said component makers revealed that the redesigned MacBook A...... Read more
Digitimes reports that Apple is preparing two updates for the second half of 2010. The first is said to be an 11.6-inch MacBook Air featuring a Intel Core i-series ultra-low voltage processor. An 11.6-inch display would be notably smaller than the current 13.3-inch screen found in the current MacBook Air.
Kuo, citing discussions with upstream component makers, noted that the 11.6-inch MacBook Air will feature an even slimmer and lighter design than the previous-generation models and the technologies used for the design and concept are expected to be broadly used in the company’s ...... Read more
There has been considerable discussion over the past couple of days regarding possibilities for front- and rear- facing cameras in the next-generation iPod touch, sparked by claims that the device will carry an iPhone 4-like 5-megapixel rear-facing camera. While the assertions have since been reported to be speculation rather than claimed facts, it hasn’t stopped the rumor mill and leaks from winding up.
Yesterday, we noted that the iPhone 4′s 5-megapixel camera would not fit within the body of the current iPod touch given the camera’s 6.5 mm depth. And while a fr...... Read more

iPod touch (left) and iPhone 4 camera (right)
After we heard today’s rumors claiming that the next iPod touch might be getting the iPhone 4′s 5-megapixel camera, we asked iFixit’s Kyle Wiens if that would even be possible given the sizes of the parts involved. iFixit offers repair guides (iPhone 4 guide) and parts for Apple products and has made a name for itself by posting detailed product teardowns.
This issue of camera size is one we’ve seen before. The iPod nano, for example, contains a video-only camera but is unable to take still photos. St...... Read more
