Google has re-written the mobile YouTube site entirely in HTML5, allowing smartphone owners to browse and search the videos, access the features of their account and yes – stream video without the Adobe Flash plugin. YouTube has announced that it has revamped its mobile YouTube site to support a complete YouTube browsing experience on modern mobile phones, including the iPhone. YouTube kind to HTML5, says Flash is still needed

YouTube Software Engineer John Harding today explained that the video site was still closely tied to Flash. While the site is “excited” about HTML5 and is using it for most videos in its optional player and mobile devices, many of the site’s features still need Adobe’s plugin to work well or to work at all. At a minimum, embedding needs the option as videos otherwise can’t port over their ads, annotations or notes. Not kidding. Steve jobs is only looking at a limited crowd. What about the people in rural areas where the bandwidth is low, there are limitations like 5 GB max in a month (search for Mound, MN). The service providers are fleecing the folks using high bandwidth. See I want to produce HD and send the DVDs to my friends and family in remote parts of the world where they have limited hardware to playback the videos but Internet may not be as fast.
