Invitation’s circumstances still unclear
Apple CEO Tim Cook was briefly listed as an invitee at a National Comprehensive Cancer Network conference, scheduled for March 14th to the 18th, reports note. Cook had been invited to a morning roundtable on the 15th moderated by ABC anchor Sam Donaldson, entitled “Cancer and Corporate America: Business as Usual?” A check of the listings now shows no mention of Cook.
The change suggests that Cook declined. Why he was invited is unknown, although Cook recently replaced Apple co-founder Steve Jobs, who died of pancreatic cancer on October 5th. Prior to then Cook had filled in for Jobs during the latter’s three medical leaves, stepping up from lesser executive roles.
Under Cook’s full-time leadership, Apple has also made a major contribution to Stanford University hospitals. This includes $25 million for a new main building, and another $25 million for a children’s hospital.
